The following list shows which places in your home need insulation. An unconditioned space is an area with no heat or air conditioning. A conditioned space is heated in winter and air conditioned in the summer.
  1. Ceilings with unconditioned space above
  2. “Knee” walls of a finished or conditioned attic
  3. Exterior walls or walls between conditioned and unconditioned spaces
  4. Floors over unconditioned or outside spaces
  5. Perimeter of a concrete floor slab close to grade level
  6. Walls of finished or conditioned basement
  7. Top of foundation or basement wall (rim joist of band joist)
  8. Sloping rafters-leave an air space for ventilation between the insulation and the roof deck

INSULATION

COMFORT.  ENERGY EFFICIENCY.   PEACE OF MIND.

Sealing and insulating the "envelope" or "shell" of your home, meaning its outer walls, ceilings, windows, doors, and floors, is often the most cost effective way to improve energy efficiency and comfort in your home.

Insulation keeps your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There are several common types of insulation: fiberglass (in both batt and blown-in forms), cellulose, rigid foam board, and spray foam. The basic function of insulation is to resist the flow of heat. This is expressed as an “R” value; the higher the “R” value, the more resistance to heat flow.

When correctly installed with air sealing and ventilation, insulation can deliver comfort and lower energy bills during the hottest and coldest times of the year. Many homes in Minnesota have the potential to reduce their enegy costs by 30% or more.

SENSIBLE™ Home Solutions can provide a thorough and accurate measurement of air leakage in your home and determine the areas that need air sealing, insulation and ventilation. SENSIBLE™ Home Solutions will conduct an energy audit, which includes a blower door test and an infrared scan. After performing the tests in your home SENSIBLE™ Home Solutions will prepare a detailed report that will identify all the areas  that would benefit from improved air sealing and insulation and the costs for these improvements.
